This doesn't look like Colorado

No ocean in Colorado last I looked.  But I've been gone for a few days so maybe some phenomenal geological plate tectonics occurred and I'll return home to a little of this ocean stuff I love so much....but in the mean time, I have just returned from my 2-day trek up Mt. Whitney (more on that in the next post).  Unfortunately, Whitney didn't provide the results my son Brendan and I had hoped due to some stupid fire near Sequoia National Park which invaded the camp ground we were staying at in Mt. Whitney.  Brendan has some pretty bad breathing issues and we had to cancel the summit at 13,000'.  Bummed for sure but it was better to be safe, he was having some pretty severe problems.  I'll share all the details in a few days, but in the meantime ... we've had some fantastic beach time pre-Whitney.

Rodando Beach

With the fab Running Green Girl

San Clemente Beach
Sand crabs.  Ewww

Brendan, the awesome Meg from Meg Runs, and her very nice hubby, Boy Scout

Meg made me some sand signs

Had a fantastic visit with The Running Green Girl where she made me eat some de-lish frozen yogurt and I got to see her cool digs and catch up on her crazy world.  So fun.  Then Brendan and I headed down South to stay with Meg and her husband at their beautiful home in Encinitas.  They live in an adorable little Southern Cali town and made Brendan and I feel so welcomed in their home and took us to the beach for the day where Brendan and BS had fun digging for sand crabs.  Ick.  We're headed back to Meg's on Friday where I hope to see many bloggers for Meg and BS's bloggie BBQ - I hear they're making homemade pizzas in their backyard brick oven.  Yum!   Can't wait.  But first, Brendan and I are headed to run a little at Badwater in Death Valley tomorrow.  Hoping I can make it a half mile in the 120 degree heat...only 134.5 miles remaining for the race!

Until later....

First half mile is the hardest anyhow. After that, you're acclimated.

Beautiful pictures. Bummer about Mt. Whitney, but it looks like you're having a great time. Look at you and all your blogger meet-ups...great fodder for your end of year video. :) So...when are you coming to S. Illinois? :) We'll have to run, bc I just may be off my beloved bikes for a while. :(

I am NOT jealous of the badwater part, however, haha.
I DO love death valley though. In early spring.

Bummer about the air quaility issues. Not getting to summitt would be a bummer.

The beach could partial help make up for it...and meet ups too...and BADWATER!! Okay I think I'd call it a successful trip now!!

What! You were in Redondo/Hermosa and didn't even say Hello?!

I'm so jealous you got to hang out with meg!!!

Don't be a wimp, finish the rest of the race! What's another 134.5 miles anyway??

I'm sorry to hear that the summit didn't pan out. Altitude is hard enough by itself - with the smokey air from a forest fire? That just sounds brutal...

We're shooting for the Hawaii peak next week, at just over 14k. We're starting at sea level, so it should be interesting!

Char said...

120 degree heat is insane. I would be staying in an airconditioned car. Pity about the summit for Brendan but there are just some things that are out of your control.

XLMIC said...

Bummer about the summit :( Hope he's doing well now.

It looks like you are managing to enjoy your trip :) I would love to go to Death Valley someday.

Chris K said...

Sorry about the summit attempt. Obviously, Mt. Whitney is a walk in the park for someone like you who did Pikes Peak last week.

Hey, you were like 5 miles from me. Welcome to the 'hood. I'm not coming to the party unless Meg and B.S. change their mind about the pizzas.

Jennifer said...

Wow! Are you busy. Beaches and mountains and valleys! Woo hoo! Keep you foot safe and keep having a great time. Sorry about the fires, but like Chris K said, your all over the place with this mountain climbing, no biggie for you!

You got to meet Meg, soooo jealous!

Julie said...

Yay!! Jill is at the beach! Looks amazing for sure! I like the pictures in the sand and you know how much I love blogger meet ups:) So when and the hell are we going to meet lady? Soon I hope....we will have a blast when that finally happens! Take care! Hugs!!

Alma said...

Wow - what a trip! That beach time looks awesome. Too cold and gray up here.
Bring some of that badwater badassness back!

The Green Girl said...

Jill! It was so great to see you and Brandon. I am so sorry to hear about Mt. Whitney. ::hugs to you both::

I had a really good time catching up with you and hope to see you again really soon.

Johann said...

Sorry about the summit but it seems you still had a wonderful time. Running at Badwater...very jealous! I think when I do Badwater I'll have an all blogger crew. Still far from that so I hope all the great peeps are still running and blogging at that time. Have a super weekend Jill!

That smoke spread all along the Sierras. We saw it and smelled it half way north on John Muir Trail too and then by Whitney too when I was picking up my truck parked at the trailhead. I felt for all the hikers who were just getting ready to hit the Whitney trail.
Sorry about the summit.

Tara said...

Meg sure is creative with those signs of hers! So cool you got to stay with her and BS.

OK girlie, sounds like you are having a great time in spite of the fact that you didn't make it to the summit, but come back! I miss ya!

You really ran in Badwater? I just got through typing an e-mail about how I am in awe of that place.

Adam said...

OH wow!! You met up with SOO many bloggers! Too cool.
