Denver RnR Weekend by the numbers

1 Healthy Slice blogger friend who came to spend the weekend with me and run the Rock and Roll Half.
3 days (or at least 3 partial days) we got to hang out. :)
2 bloggers Marcia and I got to meet up with over the weekend: One at the oh so blah expo where we shared some laughs with the oh so fun Kathy.

The other was the lovely Terzah, who brought her twins to my son's cross country meet.
Myself, Marcia, Terzah and Terzah's adorable daughter
(her son is lost somewhere :))
3 hearty souls up bright and early ready to tear up the Rock and Roll course (or in 2 cases: slog through the course)
Marcia, dorky me, and my friend Ann and a crapola pic of the
capital in the background
18ish times Marcia told me she felt like she couldn't get any air running.
18ish times I told sea-leveler Marcia she was running at 6000'.
4,567 times Marcia and I complained to one another about how much fitness we've lost, unwanted weight gained, and paces that are just plain sad in our old age the last year.
2 new names Marcia and I deemed ourselves: Thelma and Louise.
9 times we said, "These hills suck!" Impressive since there were only really 6.  Okay, 5!
3 minute potty break Marcia had to take mid-race. And 3 minutes I, devoted friend, waited for her.
1 cranky foot (mine).
.25 last mile where we actually ran "fast" and felt our old selves revived.
1+1 pretty blah shirt and medal (which look eerily similar to the San Diego RnR shirt and medal!!).
1 new mom who came downtown to cheer us on.
Tara!!
2 slices of post-race pizza eaten from my favorite downtown restaurant.
1 monster-sized cupcake consumed after pizza.  (And I wonder why I can't run well??).  At least it wasn't 3 at once...like someone we know...

This new mom apparently needs to get out more!
8:30pm when Marcia and I called it a night after the race. I really know how to be an awesome hostess, eh?

8 gazillion tribillion golden aspen leaves we saw on Sunday.

0 gallons of gas "Thelma" realized she had left while on our high country leaf hunting adventure.
11 miles to nearest gas station.
36 times Thelma may have said a swear word.
1 lake hike aborted in search of fuel.
2 sets of muscles not needed to push the car - we made it!
74 dollars spent on gas. That's a new PR!
1 new trail found to hike!!!

1 time Thelma almost fell off the trail and landed 800' below.
1 time Louise slipped and almost pulled a hamstring.
1 train spotted.
2 chicken sandwiches devoured in Georgetown.
0 desserts consumed (at least, not immediately after lunch anyway).
1 Incredibly fun weekend!

Foot update:
My foot issue seems to be slightly better.  I can turn my foot inwards and my ankle is no longer screaming, at least.  I had a pretty decent run today....so I'll continue to keep doing my PT exercises and hope the progress continues then next week I'll head to PT one ore time before Chicago.  I have succumbed to the fact I will be walking a vast majority of Chicago.  It's not what I wanted, of course, but I'm at peace with this.  There'll be other marathons.  I think.

Until next time....

Run Strong, my friends!

On the one hand I am glad the foot is better; on the other, it sucks to be relegated to walking much of a marathon.

Your state is hideous! ;)
Glad you had fun during your run and glad your foot is slightly better.

There is someone missing from one of those pictures!
:-(
Someday again I hope.

Glad you guys had fun - yes it did feel like 49 hills on the course!! Sorry I was lame and couldn't be part of the meet up. Sometimes Longmont feels too far away even though it isn't.Plus that race took it completely out of me for some reason. Getting old I guess. Love the pictures of the leaves!! This state sucks but someone has to live here.

Glad that your foot is feeling better and that you had fun. Hopefully you won't have to walk as much of Chicago as you think you might.
That large cupcake looks so yummy. I love cupcakes!

I have a feeling you'll do better than you think here. I really hope we get the chance to meet while you are in town! You can always run with me and my sister :)

Great times with great friends while running = super and the best! Nice recap! I'm battling with this age vs speed and fitness and weight thing myself. Keep it going Jill!

I am so glad you such a fun weekend and so bummed that I didn't get to see you!!!

Glad the foot is healing up and hoping you don't have to walk most of the marathon and are able to enjoy the experience whatever it is. Beautiful pics as always!!!

Terzah said...

Thank you for not saying "Her son was running around like a crazy man." :^)

It was great to see you guys and I LOVED the meet. It was really inspiring to watch all those kids run (hey, they all have different gaits just like us old folks!). You'll have to clue me in to some of your secret trails.

Really glad Thelma and Louise didn't run out of gas....

What a great time! And such beautiful pictures. Sounds like you guys had so much fun together. AND getting to meet up with Terzah and Kathy?? Lucky, lucky...even before you factor in the Colorado scenery.

Terzah is super sweet too! What a blast of a meet up.

Glad the foot is mostly better and you had a gas PR...really so many great things ;)

Ha! Thelma and Louise!! And you are...Louise? :))

What a fun meet up. This kind of thing feeds a friendship and can last for years. Plenty of FUN.
I bet you had a blast reminding her that there was NO air at 6000ft. When I make it there, you will not need to remind me, but I will ask you to just pass the oxygen mask :)

And Terzah! I bet the conversation was lively. Hope to meet her too some day :)

What a great time - love all the beautiful pictures and the monster cupcake :)

What a great weekend!!! I am so far behind on blogs! As usual you make me laugh! I can not believe how long it has been since I've been up to see the aspens and your photos are gorgeous!

I need to move to your ugly state

Looks like you had a great time!

Char said...

What car do you drive? A Hummer?? That's a lot of money to fill a tank. But having said that, I drive a Suzuki Swift - cute and little.

You girls had a great weekend.

There WILL be others and if you make up your mind to enjoy to savour to really GET all of Chicago you will have a fantastic time no matter what your (*&(^*&^ foot tries to do! GO JILL!

C2Iowa said...

So, when are you writing your book about the trials and tribulations of being a lifelong runner?

Glad to hear that the foot is behaving.

Sounds like a good 3 days!

The leaves.....awesome; of course.

Robin said...

Glad to hear your foot seems to be on the mend.Hope that continues for you!

HappyTrails said...

Wowzers!!! You girls had a fantastic, fun-filled weekend!!! Are there really REAL hills on the race course??? :-) Your photos are beautiful - the aspens are always amazing - we might have to see if there are any left on the trees up high this weekend. I felt your pain about almost running out of gas - I can laugh now but ask Steve about our little gas adventure when we were driving to Moab years ago. Sounds similar to your adventure.... I'm liking all the references to food - especially liking the cupcake photo! Nice to have a Tara sighting, too. I want your foot to get better and get you back to your normal self so you can fly again!

Such a fun weekend you guys had! Jealous!

Heidi Nicole said...

Sounds like quite the weekend! where dis you find the aspen hike?

Tara said...

Haha! I love it when you do your numbers posts. And I am so glad that Thelma didn't fall off the trail 800 ft to her death....no bueno.

I had so much fun with Thelma and Louise, I'm glad Louise decided to do the race even though she couldn't breathe.

Where did you guys go? Beautiful pics. We did a hike Sunday too, went out to Kenosha pass.....gorgeous out there.

Looks fabulous! Those leaves are amazing - been a LONG time since I've seen aspens like that. Thanks for sharing.

What a great "numbers" post! That was great! Those Aspen leaves are incredible. I'm so glad you didn't run out of gas. It looks like you've really been busy with lots of things going on. Mmmmm... Cupcakes!

Teamarcia said...

Oh yay am I last to comment AGAIN? Oxygen deprivation aside, the weekend was fun beyond words. Cannot believe Chi is right around the corner. I've ordered the 80 degree extended forecast right out of town so no worries. You will so NOT be walking, Thelma Sandbagger! See you again soon! xoxo

Christie said...

I like the numbers theme of this post:) Sounds like you had a fun weekend.

That trail's scenery is amazing. Love fall and everything it brings.

I hope that 1 'cranky foot' decides to cheer the hell up so you can enjoy Chicago. Either way, I am sure you will make the best out of it.

Christi said...

Sounds like a great weekend of fun!! I am curious why was the Denver race so early this year? Do you know why?

Glenn Jones said...

Wow. Fall colors already? I'm jealous! We are into our fall shade of brown here in California. Nice to see everything is going well!

Lindsay said...

i am glad you had a great time with marcia (/thelma /louise - who was who?) i can't believe your leaves have already turned so much! i just can't wait for my big oaks to start dropping their leaves... oh wait. that's what josh is for ;) glad the foot is doing ok and hope it continues to get better! and yes there WILL be other marathons. besides, chicago has been a big cluster for like the past 5 years anyway with the weather hasn't it? i am good at coming up with excuses.

Black Knight said...

I like a lot this report by numbers and, as usual, great photos of the wonderful time spent with your (our) blogger friends.
All the best to ... Thelma & Louise.

Kathy said...

Bah, how did I miss this post? Glad I was able to catch you guys at the Expo - I'm still baffled how I missed you two on the course!
I am very grateful that no one fell of the side of any cliffs - well done Thelma and Louise!

Molly said...

Did you really run out of gas??? Pushing the car counts as cross training :) Cranky heel be gone, but what a weekend of fun you had!!!!

Adrienne Langelier, MA said...

1 really fun post! Tell that heel to bother someone else more boring!:)

Races are just a bonus, everything that happens around them is what really matters-as you creatively illustrate here.

Glad to hear the foot keeps getting better. Let's not have a repeat of the last time.

5 - The number of stars I give your post.

4 - The number of pics with you in it.

3 - Minutes it took to go over your post.

2 - The number you don't want to have to go during a race.

1 - Your number to me.

Have a great week.

Irene said...

Is this the second rock 'n' roll event you've run in this year?
Add another number - one more medal sent in the mail after the end of this year. It 's kind of anti-climactic and cool all at the same time. I hope your foot will be ok. I loved reading your race recap and your adventures after. The photos are gorgeous.

Hugs!
