Off to a good start....sorta

Just a quick blog, it's approaching that bewitching hour to hit the hay!

Well, you'll be glad to know I went to the gym all by my lonesome today. I decided the only way I'm going to get to the gym is to go directly from work. Do not go home (Do not pass GO. Go directly to jail). And ya know what? I did it!!! A killer core and strength training workout that's probably going to have me wincing tomorrow - but oh well. I still need to sift through countless (and I mean hundreds) of prior training logs and decipher which core elements work best where, but I think I managed tonight to get in what I needed and I didn't wimp out and exit early, like I like to do when I am with only me. Now, if I can keep this going, all's going to be good. I did end up cutting my easy 5 miler down to 3 .... a little too tired after that weight workout. Which is fine, they were just recovery miles anyway. I think it's time, after this week, to start the two-a-days (weight a.m., running p.m.)...I just wish it weren't so flipping freezing outside right now; it's so hard to crawl out of my flannel sheets and down comforter at 4:30 a.m. when the thermometer says 3 degrees (as it currently does). ugh.

But I hit an almost all-time high for A.D.D. moments today. I was in a rush (typical) to get to work today and digging in my closet for shoes. It was dark and I grabbed two. Put 'em on and out the door and off to school. An hour into it (an HOUR, mind you), I look down and this is what I see:

Oh my gawd!!!!!!

A quick trip home (how sweet to live 1 mile from house to school, huh?) to rectify the situation (and thankful no one actually noticed, except the one I actually told why I was leaving):

Ahhhhhhh....that's better. I prefer the blue patent leather Dansko's over the black ones anyway. :) Sometimes, I just gotta love myself for being such a dork!

My training calendar is updated for the week, but I did switch Tuesday and Thursday around because Tuesday's weather wasn't calling for the Arctic cold front and snow to prey upon me like it is right now - so in one of my better calls (ahem), I decided to run hill repeats on a 40 degree day with only a touch of snow on the road instead of 9 degrees with a ton of snow (and I can do intervals on my basement treadmill. yay). The hill repeats went very well - I gotta pat myself on the back for that decision! Anyway, I will update my calendar each week for those that want to follow. Maybe you can make me accountable :).

Run strong, friends!

I have so done that with shoes before!!! You're very fortunate to live that close, because I usually have to look like a dork all day.
Great job on the workout!

I wore brown socks with my black pants to school Monday positive they were black until I got home that evening! Oh well. My third grade students don't care. I agree - the only way to get to the gym is to go straight from work, and not go home first!

Nice shoes! Ha! I'm forcing myself to get back into the weights routine. I do them ocassionally but not enough. Two days in a row=difficulty sitting on the toilet! Apparently, I've really been avoiding the legs because I am SORE! I feel like I can deal with the freezing weather, just not the DARK freezing weather which is what I have to deal with at 5 am. We are in a ridiculously cold snap and have not had temperatures above zero in well over a week. I am constantly having to switch around my training schedule. I did hill repeats yesterday too. I wish I could say mine went very well but they sucked!! Keep up the good work! Love following you

Me and weights are still in the planning stage as in I can't figure out when to work them in.
I have to take all my clothes into the bathroom with me in the morning just to double check that everything matches...and not go in wearing blue socks with black pants and shoes. WNTW!

I don't have enough pairs of work shoes that I can do this, but I have witnessed others doing it. :)

I totally know what you mean about cold weather. Of course in Florida it is not in the single digits, but lately it has been in the 30's which is still cold when you are used to 70's most of the year.

Your chance to lead the charge on mismatched shoes as a fashion statement and you wimp out. Harumph.

I have done the shoe thing before too!! And with totally different shoes, not just colors! And I, like you, must go RIGHT to the gym from work or it doesn't happen!

LOL! I'm always afraid I'll make it to work in my slippers! How funny would that be - for everyone else, not me!

LOL on the shoes! So something I would do! Great job mixing it up to get the hills in on a better day!

I've done that too! So funny when you noticed it. Embrassing when someone else notices first!

I finally got to the post office (sorry!). With getting my oldest off to basic training - I'm a bit more frazzled than usual! But it is on it's way! Let me know when you get it!

The weather (and my boohoo moodiness over my son) has been messing with my running schedule! I am now on track to hit 47 this week but Grrr I was scheduled to 55-60. I don't know if I can make time to squeeze in an extra little bit each run to make it up. Oh I wish I didn't obsess over the numbers so much! I can't wait for the weather to get nice so I can get the little one out with me and start enjoying it more!

I will be checking that schedule so you better be sticking to it! ;-) Now your accountable!

OMG I love my Danskos (I have 4 pairs) and I am so jealous...I want the patent leather ones so bad but i told myself I have to sell the two pairs that I don't really wear before I can buy them...I think I want black though :)

Good call on the switching of days! It's freaking cold there! It's supposed to be in the teens here tomorrow which is unheard of and I am dreading it!

Hillarious! Way to go getting the training in

That is awesome that you live so close to school! I have done that before too :-) However, I had to wear them the rest of the day teaching because I did NOT live close!

My husband has done the shoe thing! He ended up wearing a black and brown shoe:) Totally different styles....that is so funny! I am sure I will do it some day too!

I can't wait for the weather to get warmer- I will be much more inclined to get up and go in the morning. LOL @ the shoes- my co-worker and I were just talking about how this happened to one of his friends recently!

OK, so I had the same shoe issue, too, though mine were the same type of clog, same color, one from the new pair, and one from the old. Good thing, bc I commute by train. Good luck with training.

I don't think I would have gone through the trouble of changing my shoes after I made it to work. I feel so lazy now. ; )

HI LA RI OUS! Looks like we've all done this at one time or another! I'm just happy these things don't ruin your day and you laugh at yourself..that's why we love you!
Two a days? I'm lucky if I can do ONE thing a day with my body! You are an animal!

That is SO funny! I've done that before but always caught myself before I left the house. So far.

Great job on the workout!

So true if I am going to the gym it must either be before work or straight from work. any stop at home results in detours

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I've done that with socks before. BTW, Danskos are on my list of things to buy with my Christmas gift cards!

Thanks for te book recomendations. My favorite running book is Advanced Marathoning by Pfitzinger becuase it does such a good job of explaining *why* you are doing things when you do them. I've also read Glover's book, but didn't think it was as good.

I'll add them to my list of books to read!

That's hilarious. It's a good thing you live so close to work.

Just found your blog...it's great! And I read a ton, so I'm always looking for recs...thanks! :)

I too have found that the trick is to NOT GO HOME after work, before the gym. Going home just saps any ounce of motivation I once may have felt!
I used to wear different shoes on purpose... wow I used to be so cool back then! haha Happy friday

Hey Jill,

Thanks for taking a trip and stopping by my site. Enjoyed reading your post here. Great Job on going to the gym, now are you sore today? Searching for things in the closet in the dark, when they are suppose to match? lol. That was so funny. Have a good one, and I look forward to reading more of your posts. Take care and Happy Weekend.

BTW the "do not go home first" works wonders for me too!
Ciao :)

Gosh I well remember those days when I willed myself to the gym after work!
Mixed or matched, those shoes are cute!

The shoe thing... When I worked in a doctor's office where we wore scrubs and white sneakers. It was common that someone came in with mismatched shoes on. Well, at least they were both white...

I like the training calendar posted on your blog! Hmmmm. I might steal that. I said "might." We'll see.

Happy running!

I've done the red snowman socks with black pants before. Middle schoolers notice everything about what you're wearing!!
