Week 52.5/End of 2009 mileage/Gratitude

So 365 days turns out to be a few days over 52 weeks. I wanted to send my year's tally for 2009 and well, I might as well do a gratitude list also.
Week 52.5:
Week's running totals: 19.25
2009 Running totals: 1821.94
Weight/core: 2 (I did them on my own and I pushed them hard. So hard, in fact, I couldn't even walk after Monday's 3-way lunges. yikes. This must mean they are doing something beneficial, yes?)

Gratitude:
- I was able to finish the year with some pretty high mileage and not endure any serious injuries. Oh, a knot, or 10, in my right calf and some glute pain from time to time but nothing that some stretching and massage therapy couldn't cure to get me right back on the running road.
- My friends: running, non-running, blogger and e-friends all alike.
- My daughter, Abbey, is making new friends in college. This is a major feat; high school wasn't the best social environment for her.
- My camera so I can document to you all my running, and non running, stuff :).
- My new Jack Daniels' Running Formula book, which has "proven programs" for the marathon! Yah!

Yesterday, as mentioned in last blog, was the annual New Year's Eve run/lunch with the Pickled Prostates group that I sometimes latch on to. I'd run with them more often, but they all run at lunchtime in downtown Denver and I don't work downtown Denver so only get the opportunity to run with them on occasion when I'm not working. Summer, when I am off work, tends to be a bit too hot to run at lunch for this girl. But we do a lot of summer weekend race prep runs sprinkled with some races and well, I just adore these guys. Picture above at top is of part of the group yesterday (many were not able to make it). I am in the front, kneeling, in blue jacket. It was a gorgeous, sunny day - a great day to toast to 2009 and all our accomplishments!

I'm not going to lie to ya, I am way lethargic today from one too many New Year's cocktails last night and have had one seriously lazy day. I did, however, manage to get in a 4.46 mile run in at an 8:46 avg pace, which I find amazing considering how miserable I feel. No more alcohol til Boston celebration! I just don't handle it well. Anyway, the first week of Boston running is going quite well. I made all my runs and I did all my weight training/core work. Monday, I did some leg work and it was probably today before I did not feel the effects of those. Seriously, ouch!!! I'm trying to get my glutes stronger to tackle the hills in Boston that I fought, and failed, last year so doing lots of hill training and glute development. I think it will be better once I do them regularly. If they hurt bad, they must be working some under-developed muscles, eh? On the docket is a 13-miler tomorrow but I'm going to see if I can do 14. If y'all notice, I have a calendar at the bottom of my blog; I will update it each week to let you know in advance my training for that week, if you want to follow along. It's going to get intense a few weeks, but I'm up for the challenge. One thing I want to do is start swimming at DU as part of a master's swim team so will add that after I figure out the logistics.

I'm hoping 2010 is going to be as incredible as 2009. One of my goals: 2010 miles. Seems fitting. I can't wait!!!

Hmmm, no more booze until Boston. How do you plan to carbo load...

Good luck with your 2010 miles goal. May you be injury free and speedy to boot.

You're a strong lady!

I too, am laying off the cocktails - a little bit of pineapple vodka goes a long way!

Happy New Year Jill!

Jill,
I am also feeling a little blah after one or two many glasses of a very tasty adult beverage last night:) The running group looks like a blast!

Yes, your group looks like so much fun! I'm happy to hear that you're only abstaining until "The Boston Celebration." As your official PP(party planner), I think we should make some "plugs" every few weeks or so, sound good? Also, I actually am taking ONE extra day off of work to stay for your birthday(actually, I just want to stay an extra day any way so--no pressure)and we're flying home on Wed. Yipee! Sounds like your Boston Training is off to a flying start, great job!! I'm not sure if I'm recovering or training...or recovering from training???!!
Hugs,
meg

I like your calendar. That's a great idea.

And 105 days seems like the blink of an eye and Boston will be here for you. I can not imagine running as race with so many people. I've BQ a few times but never wanted to do it. I am amazed at those who do. I would feel squished with all those runners.

Did you get your 14 in? Hubbs is home and limiting my mileage. Grrr. Sometimes he is less than supportive. I only got 7 today and wanted 10.

No more booze til Boston? Geesh....that's a tough call! :)

Nice job on the running even when you weren't feeling up to par. I was in bed by 10:00 on New Years, so not too much booze for me. I did manage a glass of wine.

I got your comment on my blog. PLEASE do the Cherry Creek Tri! That would be soooo much fun! Where do you swim? I am scared to death of the swim!!!

That 2010 in 2010 is just so tempting....

And I love the name of the group. "Pickled Prostrates". Hey! I resemble that!

Best of luck on 2010. The fact you made all those miles in 2009 without injury means you're doing something right!
