Go, Yvette

So, remember that “worst 5K EVER” I ran a couple weeks ago? I got this email the other day:

Note the line, "Within your class you placed: 1". Yeah, that's right, I got 1st in my age group (two years ago I got 3rd and ran a minute and fifteen second faster than this year. Hum.), which is really cool (where’d all the speedsters go this year?). Okay, no complaints here, I even got a little package in the mail today:

(Note the “1 in Category F45-49 line) I’m super stoked to see my 1st place award and rip open the package.

Here’s the front of my medal; looks pretty cool and I'm all giddy with hardware pride:

Flip it over and here’s the back:

3rd? My medal says 3rd??!!?? Um, what about my email? What about my “1 in Category……” line on my package?? Well, this normally wouldn’t be that big of a deal, I mean I really ran pathetically so slow on that 5K, I should gratefully accept my 1st, 3rd place medal, but later this afternoon when I went to pick up my bib for the ½ marathon I’m doing on Sunday (I know, I know, I didn’t really mention this little ½... unless you look back a few blogs ago and I did mention I may sign up for an upcoming half to get in some speedwork. I like to keep secrets. But yes, I’m doing one Sunday….for some much-needed tempo work, not to puke my guts out by racing it!), here’s what my bib said:
Notice anything wrong on the bib? Now I’ve had thoughts throughout my life, especially as a child, how I'd love a different name (Oh how I longed to be an Ericka (spelled just like that) or an Elizabeth….I loved how the name Eliiiiizzzzzabeeeth flowed. A select few of you know my “real” name – and we’ll just leave it at that small number *ahem, Meg M-T*. Hated that name as a kid) but never in my life have I ever thought I’d be a Yvette. Just never crossed my mind. I’m not sure I even know a Yvette. I was told to go to “bib corrections” as apparently this was a common problem, aka: everyone’s bib was messed up, and make sure my timing chip had the correct “Jill Parker” come up, when scanned. Yep, all’s good there. So technically, I don’t even need a bib, I have a timing chip on my shoe with the correct info. The guy asked me if I wanted a generic bib with no name on it instead of Yvette’s. Hum. Nope, I’m going incognito…..Sunday I’m running for all to yell, “Go Yvette”. I can't wait to hear how many calls I get. I mean, Yvette gets. Btw, Yvette’s a 37-yr old and is a size XL. Hum. I’d like to knock off a few years and 10 would be perfect, but I’ll stick to my smaller size, thanks! Nothing wrong with the size, I just don't want it. Funny that the one thing I can’t change is the one I want to and vise-versa. Yah, that’s the way my life tends to work.

I’m not sure if my recently racing misfits are an indication of things to come, but I’m actually thinking maybe it's a GOOD thing, like someone’s noticing me and paying extra special attention to getting my racing adornments wrong. "Hey, here's that Jill Parker again, let's give her a special medal to replace the one she actually earned...." I’ll let you know how it all pans out on race day Sunday; I’m kinda thinking me, or Yvette, is going to get my name in big print as wining the whole shi-bang! I’m hoping there’s a big cash prize attached to that title!

Happy weekend! And good luck to those racing this weekend, Yvette and I will be right there with ya!

Hey Yvette good job on the medal. I guess you could always use a bit of Liquid Paper and change the 3 to a 1. (That's how I used to get such good marks on my report cards)

Um, Go Yvette!

I guess no matter how you race, this will be a PR for "Yvette"

Good luck.

WooHoo Yvette, a First/Third finish! LOL

Good Luck on your half this weekend!

OK, this was definitely a LMAO post. A 3rd place medal instead of a 1st place medal, then a bib with the name "Yvette" on it! Unfortunately, I tend to take things like this too far, so from now on you will be "Yvette" to me! I hope you finish 3rd in your age group in your half and receive a 1st place medal! Good Luck, and HAVE FUN!!

Wow, TWO mix-ups... hmm, do these things come in threes? Too funny.

Have a great race, "Yvette"!

It is kind of funny. Just make sure they have you in the results computer correctly or Yvette is going to get your medal. Good luck

Wow sounds like a mixed up kinda weekend. Yvette is nice in an exotic french way. Congrats on the 1st/3rd finish. Nice of them to mail you anything I guess!
You are more brave than I to attempt a 1/2 now. Good luck with it and ALLEZ YVETTE!

Hi Jill,
That is so funny about being Yvetee for a race:) I got my confirmation for the Napa to Sonoma half marathon and my name says JulieA instead of Julie. It bugs the crap out of me. I looked on the web page for an e-mail address to see if there is someone to take care of this little problem...but no e-mail address anywhere:) My middle name is Ann but who in the heck wants a bib that reads JulieA? Not me!

Nice work on taking first for your age group in both of those races Jill!! You are a speedy chick! Good Luck with your half today girl!! Go Yvette!

Wow, you're really getting dissed over there. I guess someone named Joanne placed 3rd and got a 1st place medal. Maybe she has the "Jill" bib too. Good luck this weekend!!

Man - this is too funny. Somewhere there's ging to be a 30 something year old who pissed off that they've added a bunch of years to her age. Then to top it off - her shirt won't fit either!

Have fun. Show those 30 somethings what us older folks are made of....

Ha, ha-- that's a great story. Never heard that before. I always liked Amelia, I was big into flying when I was a kid. Kick butt in the race!!!

Funny! That reminds me of the "Matathon"(seriously - it says matathon) awards Jennifer and I received after we finished the half marathon at Stennis last year.

Hope you have a good tempo run.

Lol!! Good luck on your race Yvette!! Strange that your blog is called run with Jill. You must. Have a good friend Jill or something.

You should see what the deal was w the third place. Petty? Yes. But I would totally do it

I wasn't going to say it...but things come in 3's!! Watch out tomorrow! Love ya! You're going to do great Jilly, I mean Yvette :)

Run fast and leave Yvette behind! Good job on the age group bling. Ignore the back.

I'm sitting here laughing and the dog is just looking at me like I'm nuts. No one else is home.

I love that third place medal for your first place win! That's just awesome.

I wonder who ended up with Jill? I hope it's some big, burly guy. THAT would be funny. Now you are known as AKA Yvette. I wonder if you'll meet the real Yvette on the run?

These kinds of things happen in threes. I wonder what's next?

Have a wonderful and FUN half tomorrow!

Anne said...

I was just thinking what Irene said: What a hoot if you saw the real Yvette tomorrow. As an XL, she probably is a bit easier to spot, and you know her age. Good luck!

Good luck tomorrow Yvette! :)

Love the whole story - Yvette just tops it all off. But hey - just take that first place and OWN it. It's yours! Who cares if speedier people stayed home? You don't let yourself off the hook when they DO enter. So take it. I, for one, am impressed!

how bizarre a wrong medal and a wrong bib in the same week...maybe the running gods are trying to tell you something

Good luck, Yvette! Way to earn 3rd place:)

Wait...Jill isn't your real name?? You have perked my curiosity!!!!

And uh...go yvette!

Woohoo for your first place finish. Boo on the 3rd place medal! Woohoo for running a 1/2 marathon. Boo on getting the wrong bib!

I hope you had a good race! I did the Colfax 1/2 marathon last year and actually really enjoyed it! I loved coming back into City Park for the finish!

LMC said...

Too funny! Congrats on 1st place! I kinda like the idea of running incognito or running as somebody else, particularly if that somebody runs fast and I get their speed too. Maybe, I'll do that at my next race.:) Sounds like your running is going better these days. I hope Yvette/you had a great half today! Have a good week!

salut' on the medal and the strong performance that got you that medal....maybe you're a secret spy with several names/aliases....Hmmmm

SeeGirlRun said...

Now would NOT be the time for blood work or pap smears. No TELLING what kind of results you'd get.

But way to go on the First/Third place. And being Yvette for a day might not be too bad. Yvette and a half-marathon..... Usually I think of an Yvette as being petitte and frilly. Maybe black leather, a mask and a riding crop would be a good costume to wear during the half if you're into that kind of thing. Wearing a costume during your race I mean. Not the whip thing....

That's so strange. Hope your race went well.

Hey Yvette! Great job on your first place race! Oh wait...different race, you got first (third?) in the 5K and had the wrong name in the half? Bwahhaaha! Girl, you have some baaad luck. I'm just kidding, you did great in both races. Can't wait to see ya on Friday; we'll have fun!

Sooooo. You need to tell me your REAL name. So I can make fun of you while we are swimming.

RunningChick said...

Hilarious! Yvette rocks haha, and very funny about the medal too. No wait, on second thought, Yvette is probably a wine drinker... and you're more a margarita girl hahaha...Hope next time someone gets it right :)
